First entry

I’m not sure what to write in my first entry here and I’m a bit apprehensive. I predominately need a place to do some daily journaling about my rather mundane life and eventually post some art progress, ramble about my cd collection (which focuses on genres that most people consider boring), share some creative writing and post photos from day to day life. My search for a place to do this safely, while avoiding billionaire owned companies and edgelords has been… frustrating at best. Places that have algorithms feel a bit toxically rage baited and many other non algorithmic areas tend to only appreciate female presence if it remains open to objectification. Hopefully this will be an okay space for me. I would really like to connect to some likeminded people.

Hello! As you can see, I just joined yesterday. I’m sorry I haven’t gotten to filling out my profile yet. I’ll take the time to do that sometime today.

I found your journal via your newest entry which appeared on the Latest Things page. I liked your writing. It felt warm kind and intelligent so I clicked over to your page and read your stickied intro which confirmed that you seem warm, kind, and have a nice way of expressing yourself.

So that’s why I added you.

There isn’t much to say about me, I’m an artist, married, 40s, USA, female, vegetarian… I moved to a new state last year and haven’t made many friends mostly due to anxiety regarding politics right now. Things that are happening have brought up memories from my past which has affected me heavily this year.

What else? I love animals, hiking. I paint, sew, make paper and do some embroidery. I used to work as an activities coordinator at a nursing home but quite after Covid to focus on art. I don’t drink.

So, that’s a quick overview of who I am. Sorry if I’ve missed anything. I find a lot of the internet to be extremely hostile and have a hard time being close to people in real life so I thought I would try here as I really enjoy reading what other people have to say in a more extended format.

I hope we stay connected but if not, just let me know and I’ll remove you from my circle. 💖

Take your time with the profile, I was just super curious how you found me, or if we knew each other IRL, somehow. But if you value kindness and novel ways of looking at the world and expressing oneself, then we are likely to get along, which is awesome!

I’m sad to hear that you, too, have anxiety. The clinical part of mine is pretty well-managed, but gabapentin doesn’t help with “the country I live in is becoming a fascist dictatorship, and I am worried for my friends”. So your approach to this website is legitimate. I like it better than tumblr for long thoughts and coolly-reasoned takes on media and politics and life. It’s a more restful pace.

🍀 Good luck with not getting your anxieties and triggers stepped on by life or by the frustrating parts of blogging. Sometimes you have stuff to say, but run up against the limits of a language that was not designed for emotional honesty, and which is actively bad at expressing kindness, gratitude, and respect.
